The Hymn of Soma – A Divine Ode

A poetic rendition of the Śrī-Somadvāviṁśati-Stotram:

Meditation on Soma:

Upon the moon-like god so bright,

Who glows with soft and soothing light,

With nectar’s pot in hands so fair,

I bow to him with love and prayer.

With Śrī Vrindā by his side,

In icy glow his eyes reside,

He grants all boons to those who seek,

O Soma! Bless the strong and weak.

Praise of Soma:

O Soma, pure as heaven’s streams,

Bearer of ambrosial dreams,

Thy hues of white and shadow blend,

To thee, our heartfelt prayers ascend.

Thou art the light that calms the mind,

A beacon bright for all mankind,

The source of peace, the giver grand,

With bliss and grace in every hand.

The sages kneel at thy dear feet,

With prayers divine, their voices sweet,

Thy art the time, the phases bright,

The ruler of the starry night.

By holy chants thy name is sung,

By ancient seers with noble tongue,

Thy form is vast, thy will is free,

O Moon, who rules eternity!

The Birth of Soma:

From sage Atri's noble line,

Arose the moon, both pure, divine,

His touch turns water into gold,

With nectar’s glow, so soft yet bold.

The gods revere him through the night,

As fire and stars reflect his light,

In Vedic hymns his name is told,

His grace has made the wise grow old.

The Form of Soma:

He is the time, he is the tide,

In phases fair, he takes his ride,

A silver wheel across the sky,

That never rests, that never dies.

He grants the glow of youth and peace,

And makes the world with life increase,

O Soma, sovereign, kind and bright,

Thy mercy is the soul’s delight.

The Family of Soma:

With Rohiṇī, his queen so fair,

He rules the stars with gentle care,

The Nakshatras, his children be,

That light the night in harmony.

A lord of fate, a king of stars,

With wisdom vast, as wide as Mars,

He grants success to those who call,

And lifts the weak who fear to fall.

The Deeds of Soma:

When gods in war sought strength to fight,

They turned to Soma’s silver light,

For in his glow, the heroes stood,

With hearts so brave and arms of wood.

By Soma’s grace the storms were tamed,

The heavens danced, the demons maimed,

His cooling touch, the heat subdues,

O Moon, to thee, our hearts we choose.

The Worship of Soma:

With fragrant flowers, sweet and white,

And bowls of milk in silver light,

His altar glows beneath the sky,

Where prayers rise up and blessings fly.

Who bows to him with heart so pure,

Shall find that peace will long endure,

For Soma’s name, when softly said,

Shall bring relief to those in dread.

The Blessings of Soma:

He heals the soul, he mends the mind,

His light is peace to all mankind,

Who worships Soma finds release,

From pain and woe—receiving peace.

His cooling balm can ease the fire,

That burns with rage and hot desire,

He lifts the heart with blessings bright,

And makes the soul a child of light.

The Closing Benediction:

Upon the moon, so full and round,

A mystic glow, so vast, profound,

Who reads this hymn with faith and grace,

Shall find in life a blessed place.

In day or night, let Soma shine,

Upon the hearts of those divine,

May sorrow cease, may joy increase,

O Soma, grant us endless peace.

The Fruits of Recitation:

This hymn is pure, this hymn is bright,

It heals the soul, it brings the light,

It ends disease, it grants us grace,

And leads us to the stars' embrace.

Who sings of Soma’s silver beams,

Shall find their life fulfilled in dreams,

The moon shall bless, the stars shall guide,

And fortune’s glow shall never hide.

The Final Prayer:

May Soma’s kindness fill our days,

With gentle love and healing rays,

His mercy vast, his blessings true,

Shall guide us all in paths anew.

May Soma’s hymn be ever sung,

By every heart, by every tongue,

For those who chant with faith so high,

Shall never weep, shall never sigh.

Epilogue:

Thus ends this song, in joy and light,

A prayer to Soma, pure and white,

May all who hear it blessed be,

With wisdom, peace, and harmony.

Author's note:

From Sanskrit hymns of ancient light,

Where Soma’s name shines pure and bright,

A song was born, in words so free,

To echo through eternity.

With love I penned this humble ode,

Upon the path the seers strode,

May Soma’s grace in silver beams,

Guide souls to peace beyond their dreams.
