Mrityunjay is an epithet given to a deity who can conquer death and increase the life span, for his devotees. A commonly spread notion is that mrityunjaya only refers to lord Shiva. But that's half truth if it's not fully incorrect. There are mrityunjaya forms of so many deities mentioned in tantra. But due to lack of knowledge they're not known to the public. Today we shall name them for your convenience.
1) Narasimha mrityunjaya
The Narasimha anushtubh Mantraraja.
Used to prevent death due to grahas and Tantra badha.
2) Bramha mrityunjaya
The 32 lettered hamsatmaka bramha mantra from vairincha kalpa.

6) Dharmaraja Mantra
The mantra from mantra mahodadhi and meru tantra of Dharmaraja.
To prevent the final act of death that is getting trapoed in the yama pasha.
All these mantras and their corresponding deities are known to conquer death and
provide a healthy prolonged life to their devotees.
Now the question is how to choose a deity amongst these, when doing an anushthan for a person in the clutches of death.
The answer is three fold here:
1) Depending upon the person's horoscope
2) Based on the kula and upasana of the concerned person under threat
3) Considering the Upasana or Siddhi of the Performing Bramhan or Tantri.
If you're choosing based on the person's horoscope then one should see which of these deities correspond to the trine lords of the lagna chart. Then seeing the favourability and strength of 1st lord/ 5th lord or 9th lord any of the above deity is chosen for the anushthan. If Rahu is present in conjunction with the chosen plant or sitting in any of the trine houses the Dharmaraja anushthan becomes compulsory along with the other deity.
The following planets correspond to these deities from the above:
1) Sun - Shiva
2) Mars - Skanda
3) Mercury - Narasimha
4) Moon - Shiva
5) Jupiter - Bramha
6) Venus - Shiva
7) Saturn - Veda vyasa
8) Rahu - Trayambak rudra + Dharmaraja
9) Ketu - Bramha + Veda Vyasa
The above list is specific to this topic only. It's verified by the practical application of these prayogas in such cases by the author.
If you're choosing based on the person's kula or upasana then You should see whivh deity the family worships. In today's world the families or the individual worshippers can broadly be divided into 2 kinds of upasana kulas, One is Vaishnava or Worshiping deities related to vishnu. Second is Shaiva or worshipping deities related to shiva. So they have to choose according to their patron deity. For eg. The Vaishnavas can choose Narasimha and vyasa mrityunjaya. The Shaivas can choose Trayambak and Skanda mrityunjaya. Non sectarian Vedic bramhins or the prajapati potter castes can choose Bramha mrityunjaya. Dharmaraja prayoga can be done complimentary with any of these if the situation is not improving.
If selection is to be done based upon the siddhi of the Performing priest or the tantri then he will select the deity whose siddhi he has from the above mentioned deities.
The prayogas of the mrityunjaya usually involves Prayashchitta in the form of Anna, swarna, ghruta, gau, bhu and chaya daana; Navagraha shanti, Kuladevata, Grama devata, Kshetrapala appeasement; Vastu shanti, The Mrityunjaya devata Pujan, Yantra nirman and avaran puja, 1.25 lakhs Japa, Dashansh havan, tarpan, marjan, bramhan bhojan, bali, Abhishek to the yajamana. In some cases the yantra is consecrated in the form of an amulet and tied around the neck or arm of the yajamana.
In some rare cases single anushthan doesn't show results, then it has to be combined with Veda vyasa anushthan or Dharmaraja anushthan.
