Generally, Narasimhadev is considered to be the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and in Vaishnav sect, many of his forms like Yoga Narasimha, Lakshmi-Narasimha, ugra Narasimha etc. are worshipped. But in the tantrik scriptures we also find that in the Guhyakali form of adi shakti, there is a provision to perform the worship of Lord Narasimha in place of Shiva in the form of her Bhairava, guardian deity and guru in her upasana, which may sound strange to general folks. But in reality, along with Bhagwati Guhyakali, Lord Narasimha is not worshiped as Vishnu Tattva but in the form of Kalagnirudra i.e. Shiva. But why did Mahadev suddenly have to assume the form of a man-lion?
According to the Mahakal Samhita, there lived some ascetic sages, seers and Brahmarishis on the peaks of the Himalayas. Some of them practiced yoga, while others practiced controlling the senses and the renunciation. Once, the demons, intoxicated with the boon, attacked those meditative and silent sages, and suffering from the unspeakable atrocities inflicted on them, those sages appealed to Jagadamba Parvati. Hearing the pitiful cries of those sages who were hindered in their penance, the Goddess became very angry.
Satisfied with the prayers of the ascetics, the Goddess incarnated in her dark form (Guhyakali) and graced them all with protection, and while wandering on the mountain peak, she started killing the demons. When the ever playful Maheshwari veiled herself with her magic and went into a frenzy of destruction, then Devadhidev Maharudra got disturbed after seeing his beloved Mahakali in that state, like a shadow of himself. Seeing the monstrous form of Mahamaya, Soumyamurti Shivshambhu started moving forward with fear to pacify her.
Vrishabhadhwaj Lord Rudra started thinking - "What should I do in this situation? My beloved Parvati incarnated in this form for the purpose of protecting the sages and killing the demons, but after the accomplishment of the divine work, she has forgotten her gentle form due to her self-illusion. Seeing her in this state, neither am I able to keep myself stable, nor am I able to calm down the goddess. How can I calm down her anger in such a situation?"
When Lord Girish was thinking like this, then in a loud voice like the thunder of the clouds, the omniscient Bhagwati said to her master - "Neither will I abandon this hideous form, nor will I remain alone on this mountain. In my mind, I have a strong desire to live with you in these mountains but you cannot fulfill this desire of mine in this calm form of yours. Now I am in this fierce form, so you yourself, assuming your fierce form, travel with me on various mountain peaks. "
Hearing this loving address of Mahakali, Pinakapani Lord Shankar asked - "Goddess! Please tell me in which form of mine will you be satisfied, I will take that same form as per your wish."
Bhagwati Rudrani laughed and said to her husband - "If you want to pacify me, then you should assume your Narasimha form which is half man and half lion, because there is no other form in this world more terrible than Narasimha. O Vibhau! There is no one equal to me except you. If you are a lover then I am the beloved, if you are Shiva then I am Shakti, if you are the purusha then I am the prakriti, and if you are a speaker then I am the speech."
In this way, after the conversation between Rudrani and Sadashiv, Lord Shiva, the ruler of the pramatha ganas, took the form of a very monstrous man- lion (Narasimha). Half of his body was that of a lion and the other half was that of a human. His sharp nails that pierced the chests of the enemies of the Gods were soaked in blood. The four canines coming out of his mouth were long and sharp. His hair were as thick as a chamar. His sharp nails were as strong and tough as thunderbolts. He was of blood colour, his sixteen arms were equipped with various weapons and his face was adorned with blazing eyes like three suns under the apocalypse. Flaming meteors were emanating from his mouth cavity and Lord Nrisimha Shiva, who wore the crescent moon as an ornament, was laughing horrifyingly.
Pramathanath Vrishabhadhwaj Lord Kalagnirudra then asked his wife Shailasuta Parvati in the form of Guhyakali - "Why Devi, are you satisfied after seeing this fiery form of mine named Jwalamali Narasimha ?"
🙏 Namo Narasimha 🙏
