Some thoughts on shakti upasana:

According to the texts, Kalau Chandi Vinayako is proclaimed but Keshavah Sarvakale is also written. And in the worship related to Panchadevatas, these five functions of creation, sustenance, destruction, control and grace are performed by the Supreme Soul in the form of Surya, Vishnu, Shiva, devi (shakti) and Ganesha. None of these five is bigger or smaller in comparison to each other. But there is one thing, that Shakti is never independent, she always remains in the shelter of her wielder (shaktiman).

As we have Sun whose power is it's rays. Similarly, if there is a moon then there is it's moonlight. If there are clouds then there is thunder. Similarly, power is also relevant and existing when there's a "powerful" or wielder of that energy. It does not exist independently. Whenever it becomes independent, it becomes destructive, like when Sati became independent, she had to burn in the fire of homa in Daksha Yagya. If lightning also comes down leaving the clouds, then it has to be absorbed in the ground.

Worship of Shakti is an essential element, but along with worship of Shakti, worship of Shaktimaan is also necessary. Whichever shakta vidya is chanted, one tenth of it must be chanted for it's Shaktimaan, otherwise the power will become unruly and it is not even known where it will take you down the line. And it will be very late for remedial measures. Biggest examples are Ravan, indrajit, narakasur etc..

There's a chaupai in Kishkindha kaand of Raamayan:

jimi sutantr bhaye bigarahin naaree.

Which simply means the day feminine energy is let free, it will become unruly and create problems.
