Menstrual cycle of Earth goddess (Bhudevi):

Cultural aspects:

Earth, which we consider as Bhudevi, is also known to menstruate. This festival is celebrated for three days. People of Odisha have a great faith in the belief that Bhudevi is the wife of Lord Vishnu and she menstruates on three days of the month of Ashadha. This time is celebrated with great pomp and show as “Raja” or “Rajo” festival by stopping all agricultural work in the state for these three days.

Broadly speaking this festival starts from Mithun Sankranti which is also called as Raja Sankranti. On this day, Lord Sun transits from Taurus to Gemini, which has varied impacts on different zodiac signs. It is believed that the rainy season is considered to begin only after Raja Sankranti.

Astrological significance:

Earth goddess Menstruation :- One should take note of this event very carefully. Every person knows approximately when Makar Sankranti falls. If that one is related to Capricorn sign then it's simple meaning is that there is a Surya Sankranti every month pertaining to different zodiacs. Sankranti is an auspicious time for sadhana every month. So find on which tithi or date Surya Sankranti exactly falls, in the Indian month in which you have decided to perform the yadnya or ritualistic fire sacrifice (this is given in every local almanac).

This day occurs around the 15th every month. Meaning, if Surya Sankranti is counted as one, then menstruation occurs on 1, 5, 10, 11, 16, 18, 19 days. From that day till the next 3 days, bhumi or the earth is menstruating. One should not perform any yadnya, yaha, shanti, house warming, marriage or upanayan sanskar. If done then it results in misery, diseases and loss.

Pauranik reference regarding Earth goddess menstruation and rains:

When the earth is purified after completing the menstrual cycle, Virat Purusha Shri Narayan desires to enjoy her. After four days of menstruation, Bhagwati gets purified and ovulates. Kama originates in the navel of Virat purush i.e. in the north-east direction. Vidyut Saudamini (thunder/ lightning) who is seen roaring in the north-east corner, is seen as sexual arousal of Virat Purusha. The ejaculation or release is in the form of rains and thereby impregnating the earth.
