There cannot be salvation without enjoyment (no moksha without bhoga). If the one to whom God has given all the means for enjoyment, indulges in the worship of God while enjoying and gives up the illusion of enjoyment, then the salvation is certain. If one who has scrumptious food available, fasts on Ekadashi, then the individual will certainly get the material and spiritual benefits mentioned in the shastras, but the one who is deprived of food and doesn't have anything to eat on the day of Ekadashi will not get the results of fasting because he is already undergoing the fruits of his previously earned karma.
